Phonics Match-Funding

The Government announced in April 2011 that match-funding of up to £3000 will be provided for schools to buy systematic synthetic phonics products and training from an approved list in a catalogue. The Department appointed ESPO (on behalf of its partners in the Pro5 group of Professional Buying Organisations) to procure the products and training services from multiple suppliers and to manage the match-funding.

What’s the deal??

For eligible products (from Pearson these are Phonics Bug, Sound Discovery and Professional Development), the government will match every £1 you spend up to £3000 — so you can get up to £6000 of resources in total. You can spend the money all in one go, or spread it out between September 2011 and March 2013.

And in support of the government’s drive to crack early literacy, we’ve decided to offer our own match funding for Bug Club too! New customers in England can get every pound they spend matched by us when they spend over £500 on Bug Club resources.

How do you access your match-funding?

All of the eligible products and training services have been pulled together into a single catalogue from the DfE entitled 'The Importance of Phonics 2 - a catalogue of systematic synthetic phonics products and training'|.

You can download an electronic version of this catalogue now, and a printed version will also be sent to schools. Throughout the duration of the funding offer the DfE will continue to evaluate new products and add them in the the catalogue if they are approved. New catalogues will therefore be released periodically during this time.
